The fast changes in national research organizations caused by changes in political systems, economics of (over)production, privatization of research, and environmental concerns, demand new future strategies for animal production research. The objectives of the workshop on Research strategy for animal production in Europe in the 21th century were: to gain a more complete understanding of the terms of success for animal production research; to assess the value of international co-operation by exchange of researchers and experience in research management; to outline an integral approach to animal production research in Europe, that is based on efficient use of research resources to solve major problems in animal production across Europe.
