In China, 2007 was called the the legislation year for labor security, and it was the year in which the Labor Contract Law and the Employment Promotion Law were approved, the Law on Mediation and Arbitration of Labor Disputes was positioned for approval, the Social Security Law was in line for consideration, and the Labor Standard Law and the Regulations on Wage Security were also in process. From July to September of 2007, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce carried out an investigation on the labor relations of private businesses, whose findings are discussed in this chapter. The chapter also talks about some new changes in collective labor relations. In particular, progress in trade union establishment, exploration of system reform, and the case of Shanxi Illegal Brick Kiln Incident are explained.
