In ancient Africa, truth, justice, compassion and righteousness were personified by the ancient Egyptian goddess, Ma’at (Ubuntu, the embodiment of natural law on which society and the cosmos are founded. Ubuntu is the cosmic principle of harmony. The intangible aspect of Ubuntu is simply the movement and feeling of compassion for our fellow human beings and the spontaneous desire to act in a caring and compassionate way. The key to creating a compassionate future and a more peaceful world is the development of genuine compassion, where every human being is treated humanely. The values of Ubuntu may serve as an acceptance of our common humanity as the only solution for societal harmony in which the Spirit of Ubuntu becomes the leading image of social development.
