Aspergillus is the best studied fungus with respect to pectinolytic enzymes and genes. It produces a broad range of pectinolytic activities and has multiple genes for many of these activities. In this chapter the current knowledge on pectinolytic enzymes and genes from Aspergillus will be summarized. In addition, the influence of genome sequences on the discovery and characterisation of Aspergillus pectinolytic genes will be discussed as well as regulatory aspects of pectinolytic gene expression in Aspergillus.
