There are many diseases and events in a cow’s life that need recording for management purposes in an organized way. The data is useful for such factors as quality assurance, management and also for central data handling requirements when assessing genetic components of disease. Farmers and veterinarians need friendly coding systems so they will use them. Statisticians need robust, often numeric codes, to enable last scale measurements to be made. How can one deliver one system that satisfies both camps?
