The publication of a new book generally brings a sense of satisfaction to the author, and debts of gratitude. I am particularly grateful to George Souza for his infinite patience and support of my submissions, and to the Brill editorial team who always do an excellent job bringing my books into print. I also need to thank my wife Laura Diez de Sollano for her tolerance and support, and for joining me on trips to visit many of the sites discussed in this tome. I have been an active researcher now for more than four decades, but it is now time to lay down the pen and dedicate time to other pursuits. This is my last book, and with its publication I will retire from academic pursuits. I have been fortunate to be able to publish my musings over the years, but I now leave it to others to continue to illuminate the past. Carry on.
