Un passage des textes de la pyramide de PÃ©pyÂ I^er (Pyr. 1055a-b [^N491A]) permet dâidentifier un Â«â¯nouveauâ¯Â» dieu canidÃ© de lâÃgypte protodynastique, nommÃ© NÃ©di. La forme du signe hiÃ©roglyphique, qui Ã©voque celle de son effigie cultuelle, relÃ¨ve dâun modÃ¨le standardisÃ© que lâon peut observer aussi pour un certain nombre de divinitÃ©s archaÃ¯ques, notamment des dieux faucons, crocodiles ou bÃ©liers. Cette normalisation cultuelle trahit probablement une volontÃ© dâharmonisation de la part du pouvoir central, dÃ©sireux de renforcer la cohÃ©sion de la sociÃ©tÃ© de son temps.

Abstract

A passage from the Pyramid Texts of Pepy Ist (1055a-b [^N491A]) makes it possible to identify a ânewâ canid god of Archaic Egypt, named Nedi. The shape of the hieroglyphic sign, which evokes that of his cult effigy, follows a standardized model that can also be observed for some other archaic deities, notably falcon, crocodile or ram gods. This cult standardization probably betrays a desire for harmonization on the part of the central power, wishing to reinforce the cohesion of the society of its time.
