Abstract

As a novice researcher in a residential treatment center for at-risk youth, I believe it is essential to share my experiences so others can better understand the sometimes-harsh realities of what occurs within such facilities. Through the use of three personal narratives that I have crafted based on firsthand experiences, I believe that the situations and subsequent emotions and thoughts I have had within each scenario are conveyed well. Additionally, these experiences are meant to shed light on my experiences and perceptions alone, with no intention of telling the experiences and perspectives of the youth, teachers, staff, or administration of such facilities. By using a case study approach, I felt that I could best relay my own thoughts and feelings about the experiences I have had thus far.
