Juliusz DomaÅski extensively quotes numerous works of Erasmus as well as Greek and Latin source texts in this book. Whenever possible, we reached for existing translations. In the case of Erasmusâ writings, it was the series âThe Collected Works of Erasmusâ from the University of Toronto. Excerpts from texts yet to be published in future volumes of this series were translated by Krzysztof Bekieszczuk, which we indicate in the footnotes.
As regards the style of the book, DomaÅskiâs idiosyncratic syntax and tone have been largely preserved in English yet lend the text a degree of complexity rooted in the fact that Polish is an inflected language and the authorâs approach combines traditional academic discourse with more humanistic literary tendencies.
Unless stated otherwise, all translations and clarifications in square brackets have been added by translators or editors.
