The impetus behind our approaching Brill with the concept of Leadership and Best Practices in Educational Technology Management was to address the issue of the lack of comprehensive materials to guide educational technology leaders â including distance learning leaders â in their practice. For many years, Kaye Shelton and George Saltsmanâs 2005 influential book, An Administratorâs Guide to Online Education, was one of the only books tailored specifically to the needs of online learning administrators. How fitting that Dr. Shelton provides the foreword to this book! The 2018 book Leading and Managing e-Learning: What the e-Learning Leader Needs to Know, is designed primarily for institutional leaders for whom online/distance learning fall under their jurisdiction, but who do not have a background in online learning, educational technology or instructional design. A Guide to Administering Distance Learning will become the leading reference for directors of distance learning and others who oversee the day-to-day operations of online/distance learning and whose responsibilities may be more extensive than their level of institutional authority. Lauren Cifuentes is uniquely qualified as an experienced faculty member and scholar who also served many years as a Director of Distance Learning at Texas A & M Corpus Christi. Dr. Cifuentes has experienced distance learning from all levels and has amassed the collective wisdom of many of the finest leaders in the field of online/distance education. This is a book written by those who have âwalked the walkâ and for those who are currently walking the walk. A Guide to Administering Distance Learning is a fitting addition to our book series.
