Abstract

Alan Cope, in exile in Louvain, not only edited for publication Nicholas Harpsfield’s Dialogi sex contra Summi Pontificatus, monasticae vitae, sanctorum, sacrarum imaginum oppugnatores, et pseudomartyres (1566 & 1573); he negotiated the commission and made the payments for its printing at Antwerp by Christopher Plantin; followed the book’s progress in press; and, it is here deduced, made special arrangements for its distribution and for Plantin’s receipt and transfer of funds to the book’s anonymous publishers.
