Note on the Author
At the time of publication Gert Biesta (www.gertbiesta.com) works as (part-time) Professor for Public Education at Maynooth University Ireland, where he contributes to the work of the Centre for Public Education and Pedagogy. In addition, he is (part-time) NIVOZ Professor for Education at the University of Humanistic Studies, The Netherlands, and Visiting Professor (Professor II) at the University of Agder, working across the departments of education, art and fine arts, and psycho-social health. He is associate editor of the journal Educational Theory and co-editor of the British Educational Research Journal. From 2014 until 2018 he was a member of the Education Council of the Netherlands, the advisory body of the Dutch government and parliament. He has previously worked at universities in the Netherlands, England, Scotland, and Luxembourg, and has held Visiting Professorships in Sweden, Norway and Belgium. His work has so far appeared in 16 different languages. Recent books include: The Beautiful Risk of Education (Routledge, 2014) and The Rediscovery of Teaching (Routledge, 2017).
