Note from Aminah B. McCloud
This is just a note to add to the many accolades in this text for Professor Jørgen S. Nielsen. While the contributors are European, I just wanted to add a word to attest to the fact that his work and his mentoring reach across the Atlantic. I first met him as a graduate student and immediately began to derive benefit from his guidance. As a student and later as a professor myself, I have met him out in the world and still remain awed by his knowledge and insight into both Islam and Muslims from various cultures. For those who had the honor to study directly under him, I envy you. This text shows some of the scope of his rigorous research methodologies and his influence on how to look at communities which are and are not your own. I am forever indebted to him for the people he has introduced me to and especially the quick responses to any questions I still may have.
