Principles of Citations and Translation
All translations are my own unless stated otherwise. In the footnotes, I have kept the punctuation, expanded contractions, and omitted the accents from the original Latin. I have used modern critical editions where appropriate and otherwise the earliest edition available to me. The quotations from Thomas Aquinas’s Summa theologiae are taken from the edition and translation of the fathers of the English Dominican province (available online at http://dhspriory.org/thomas/summa), and the biblical translations are taken from the King James Bible (Authorized Version). The citations from the modern editions of Aristotle’s Politics and Nicomachean Ethics follow the respective conventions, with the Bekker reference (page, column, line) indicating the entire paragraph as given in the modern edition.
