Abstract

Arctic Indigenous peoples are living in the area where big environmental changes are happening. The need of higher education and research in the Indigenous communities is emerging. The need of Indigenous teachers and researchers with an Indigenous world view is a focal point. A solution for this would be using the new technology for media & film for making research documentation on location in the Arctic and using of on-line teaching methods and tools for reaching all the students over long distances. The research-creation process of storytelling is paramount for broad cultivation of Indigenous knowledge, filmmaking is a medium that supports oral tradition and cultivates networks of storytelling expertise. Analysis along with mass dissemination will supersede gatekeeping that has restricted freedom of expression of Indigenous voices.
