Abstract

Awareness is forever growing that holistic, or at least more multi-, trans- and interdisciplinary approaches reflecting Indigenous methodologies are indispensable to open new, decolonised perspectives on topics that have been possibly studied for a long time in some cases and that we need to redefine in conceptual and methodological terms for reasons of recognition, as well as cultural justice and support, as much as for the sake of scientific accuracy. Narrative ethnography and interdisciplinary cultural studies have of course been keen to go a long way in this direction but much more needs to be done in view of decolonizing academic studies and corpora, starting with equal access to education, training and research for Indigenous communities. The multi- and transdisciplinary approach of this volume allows us to envisage the representation of SÃ¡pmi in cultural sources and the importance of SÃ¡mi culture in political, social and educational terms both from a historical and contemporary point-of-view, externally and internally, associating art history with anthropology, ethno-history, literature, cultural studies, comparative religion, film, education and creative writing.
