Abstract

Can artistic practice be a research? The starting point of our research is this question. We tried to clarify the creative practice which artists conduct should be a research based on rethinking theoretically the trends of Arts-Based Research (ABR) and the real feeling of an artist who is also a researcher. The research based on art would progress simultaneously with the inquiry in creation practice. The quality of artwork as an outcome of ABR would depend on the depth of the research along with it. The creative practice evokes epistemological and ontological questions, so that it would deepen our inquiries of the fundamental aspects of human existence. The diffused reflections between theoretical thinking and practical art making generate a new approach for art, education, and research.
