The two manuscripts containing Arabic translations of the fables of Aesop (Ayá¹£Å«bÅ«s) are of Christian origin.

BnF, ms. arabe 3464, formerly suppl. arabe 1644, was copied by a certain Ê¿ÄªsÄ BÄ«trÅ« (Petro) from Jerusalem, presumably in the nineteenth century. It contains 144 fables. Another copy of apparently the very same work prepared by the same copyist is preserved in the University Library at Cambridge, ms. Add. 280². Short titles of the fables in the ms. arabe 3464 were first published in the Appendix âThe Arabic Ãsopâ in Joseph Jacobsâ The Fables of Aesop, as first printed by William Caxton in 1484 â¦ now again edited and induced. London: David Nutt, 1889, 221â224. Jacobs compiled the Appendix based on the rudimentary information supplied by R.Â Gottheil. The relevant note (157) also refers to other Arabic manuscripts in the Paris and Gotha libraries that contain (Aesopic?) fables.

BnF, ms. arabe 3463 was copied in 1205/1791 by a certain MÄ«khÄÊ¾Ä«l Msdya (?). It contains 84 fables.
