Acknowledgments
I would like to thank those who helped me throughout the process of writing this book - one that took, in one way or another, over a decade. From years of collaboration to a handful of conversations, everyone below has been a true inspiration.
Itâs impossible to begin without acknowledging my parents, TrÃona and John. From my earliest years they fostered a love of literature and, to arguably an excessive extent, encouraged the expression of any and all critiques and perspectives I may have had. Without that consistent incitement, I canât imagine I would now be so presumptuous as to expect you to read almost 200 pages of my writing.
I owe a huge debt to Ramón Espejo Romero, my doctoral supervisor, who started me on the road to this book a decade ago, and has simultaneously pushed, guided, and assisted me at every stage.
Also to the entire Arthur Miller Society, an invaluable support network, whose feedback and criticism I await with equal parts anticipation and dread. In particular I am grateful to Sue Abbotson, Jan Balakian, Jane Dominik, Kate Edgerton, Ann Hall, Steve Marino, and David Palmer.
I must express particular thanks to my comrade Ambika Singh - truly, nobody else appreciates Resurrection Blues as we do.
Iâve spent most of my adult life at University College Dublin, meeting many people who have been inspirations on an academic, intellectual, and personal level, in particular: John Brannigan, Dara Downey, Kate Fama, Clare Hayes-Brady, Adam Kelly, David Kerr, P.J. Matthews, David McKinney, Ciara Murphy, Emilie Pine, Maria Stuart, Leanne Waters, and Nerys Williams.
Iâm also indebted to colleagues past and present at IADT and UCD Access & Lifelong Learning, from whom I have learnt and continue to learn so much.
Finally, my partner, Jen. She has tolerated beyond a reasonable level the near-constant presence of Arthur Miller in our relationship, and has never been anything less than staggeringly supportive, kind, and caring. I could fill another book with all that I love about her, but Iâm content to know that she will see her influence in these pages.
