Abstract

Millerâs movement towards a more ambiguous, free-floating drama throughout the 1980s is clear, as we can see in his one-act plays, but in this chapter IÂ also show that two of these plays should be considered postmodernist detective stories. IÂ track and define the postmodernist detective story, and its importance as a genre to postmodernist literature, using three key novels as examples. IÂ then show how Some Kind of Love Story and Clara are both clear genre pieces that use, enjoy, and subvert the set-up of the classic detective story in order to then undercut the desire for a solution that is inherent in all detective narratives.
