Abstract

This chapter reflects on the key conference themes of education, religion and religious education. It argues that RE is heading towards crisis and that radical changes must be made. A renewed vision for the subject is required that will encompass religion and worldviews and provide a holistic, objective and inclusive approach for all young people. Biesta’s concept of ‘subjectification’ is endorsed and it is argued that a new pedagogy of relationality – with the ‘other,’ the ‘other-than human’ and the ‘more-than-human’ – can provide the theoretical basis for the exploration of religion, secularity, spirituality and worldviews.
