Starting from a general concept of âreligionâ that defines religion as a system comprising three domains of cultural activity, cult, theology and morality, the article aims to highlight the specifities of Egyptian religion: the importance of âritual powerâ (for which the Egyptian language has two terms usually translated as âmagicâ), the unusually elaborated concepts of âtheologyâ that gradually evolve during the New Kingdom, and the process of âsacralizationâ that brings even the originally rather âsecularâ domain of morality into closer affiliation with religion.
