Abstract

In this contribution, I will examine Leszek Nowakâs social theory â known as non- Marxian historical materialism â and, in light of Francesco Coniglioneâs writings on Nowak and the PoznaÅ School of Methodology, I will compare the Polish philosopher of scienceâs social theory with my own idealistic interpretation of Marxâs philosophy. In my view, Nowakâs theory presents certain macroscopic limitations: (a) his effective nullification of the nexus linking Marx to Hegel and, more broadly, to idealism, favoring instead the placement of the thinker from Trier within the Galilean scientific tradition; and (b) his envisioning of a non-Marxian reading of historical materialism that entirely neutralizes the philosophy of praxis. This analysis is at the same time an evaluation of the interpretation that Coniglione offers of Nowakâs thought.
