Abstract

The subject matter of this article is an analysis of the relations between two theories of revolution – Theda Skocpol’s and Jack A. Goldstone’s – formed within the framework of comparative historical sociology (hereinafter, CHS). For that purpose, in the first section, I will briefly characterize that subdiscipline of science by discussing its basic research methods. In the second section I reconstruct of Skocpol’s theory of revolution. In third section, I will outline the main directions of the developments of Skocpol’s theory, including a detailed examination of Goldstone’s theory of revolution. Finally, I will reconstruct the relations between these two theories in the notion apparatus of an idealizational theory of science.
