Index of Fable Protagonists (Gods, Humans, Animals, Plants, Objects)
Note: Fable protagonists can vary from one fable tradition to the other. Examples: the cicada in Cicada and Ant becomes a cricket or a grasshopper in cultures where the cicada is not known. The raven in Raven and Fox can be substituted by a crow, and mouse and rat, ape and monkey, viper and serpent, hedgehog and porcupine are often mutually interchangeable. Not only the names of the protagonists of fables, but also those of fable-related texts and images are listed in the index. The name âAesopâ is not included in the index.
