Abstract

Ganoderma sichuanense, commonly known as reishi and lingzhi (in Chinese), is a basidiomycete white rot fungus with a high level of polysaccharides, triterpenoids and other active components, providing numerous health benefits, including boosting immunity, calming nerves, and exhibiting anti-tumor and antiviral properties. In this chapter, we briefly introduce the species but with an emphasis on its cultivation. The quality of G. sichuanense is influenced by culture conditions and medium compositions. Depending on the cultivation substrates, G. sichuanense cultivation techniques can be divided into wood-log cultivation and substitute substrate cultivation. Additionally, based on the end products obtained, the cultivation techniques of G. sichuanense can be also categorized into fruiting body cultivation, spore-powder cultivation, and ornamental cultivation. The development potential of the G. sichuanense industry is immense, however, many challenges remain due to a range of factors involved from cultivation to product development.
