Conventions
Transcription follow for all Ethiopian Semitic languages (Gǝʿǝz, Amharic, Tigrinya) the rules established for Gǝʿǝz by Wolf Leslau (Leslau 1987), in order to allow a univoque correspondence between script and transcription. Titles of books are transcribed in italics and by capitalizing only the first letter of the first word of the title. Personal names, place names and names of institutions and publishers are transcribed by capitalizing all first letters of the name. Personal titles and ranks, when not in book titles or part of place names, publishers’ and institutions’ names, are transcribed in italics and by capitalizing all first letters of each word of the title. Ethiopian personal names are given with first name and father’s name.
