This chapter aims to investigate the institutional and communal development of English-language creative writing in Hong Kong, focusing on its incorporation of a local discourse at two interrelated levels. In terms of methodology, we single out self-reflexivity. Given our diverse backgrounds and careers, we are in a strong position to document and theorize the development of the local creative writing industry. In the first section of the chapter, Antony Huen (formerly, HKMU; now, HKU) examines the pedagogy of English-language creative writing in the local tertiary sector. In the second section, Jason Eng Hun Lee (HKBU) traces the development of English creative writing and community engagement in Hong Kong. This chapter presents first-hand perspectives on a dynamic Hong Kong literary tradition, which is institutionalized by a broad and intricate network of writers, academics, literary reading and writing groups, and students through their insistence on localization in teaching and community engagements.
