A Note on Transliteration

A Note on Transliteration

Since the BCCT series is meant for non-specialists, we have streamlined the chapters in this volume by using English forms of the most common Arabic and Hebrew words, especially proper names, geographic designations, and key terms such as Quran, Muhammad, hadith, etc. When a word or phrase is important to the author’s argument, it has been italicized and transliterated according to Brill’s Islamic History and Civilizations series style sheet.
