Abstract

The text outlines the recently adopted national gender policy in Aruba, the strategic priority areas identified in this policy and the specific challenges that Aruba faces in terms of gender equality, in particular the ways that gender is related to other social categories such as race and class in Aruba. The text also includes an abridged version of the speech delivered by the prime minister at the United Nations on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023. It concludes with insights into the prime minister’s personal journey and her views on being the first female leader of the island state.
