Whenever possible, I have consulted the latest critical edition and, where available, published English translations when quoting from primary texts, though in certain instances I have lightly adapted or modified those translations. I have indicated in the corresponding note when this is the case. Where no translation is cited, the translation is mine. For ancient and medieval authors and other figures, I have used the forms and spellings that appear most commonly in recent Anglophone scholarship.
