Abstract

The chapter explores how the student vision of an ideal-type university embraces the quality culture operationalized through references to the key elements of the phenomenon, including formal-structural elements (normative, strategic and operational), the connecting elements (leadership, communication and participation), as well as the â organizational-psychological elements at the group level (trust and shared values) and individual level (responsibility, commitment and engagement). The data were obtained through 12 online focus groups with 64 Polish public university students who elaborated on their vision of an ideal university. The results show that in their vision of an ideal university, students consider playing the role of active co-creators of the universityâs quality culture. Yet, they need to be informed and prepared for their partner role more effectively and offered encouragement, support and favourable conditions to develop their agency and position as partners in the academic community. Implications for higher education quality management have been formulated, including the need for more top-down initiatives to support the initiation, implementation and recognition of student participation, responsibility, commitment and engagement to co-create the universityâs quality culture.
