Abstract

Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) affects the functioning of universities, especially in the area of education. Its high or low degree of formalization may be more supportive of individualism or collectivism and the sense of collectiveness of the academic community. Thanks to the formal and informal elements of IQAS, the academic community can be formed using internal differentiation (groups and layers). The chapter aims to find answers to three questions:

–RQ1: What is the right tool to measure academic community collectiveness?
–RQ2: What is the relationship between academic community collectiveness and IQAS?
–RQ3: What elements of IQAS contribute to academic community collectiveness?

Using bibliometric and critical analysis, the concept and features of the academic community were characterized. On this basis, an original model of building academic community collectiveness was developed, conditioned by the formalization of IQAS. Finally, the level of teamwork selected for the academic community pilot studies was checked using the Lencioni model. The results of the study confirmed that full teamwork in actions and behaviours was not achieved by its members, which is an indication for further work within this community on its team functioning. They also showed some imperfections in the tool used, which may be the basis for its improvement. This chapter is prepared from the perspective of management, quality assurance and human relations.
