Acknowledgements
This book is an adaptation of my Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) dissertation, defended at Georgetown University Law Center in August 2022.
Over these past few years, I have had the support of more people than I can possibly acknowledge. During my doctoral journey, I have had the honor of having the best mentors I could have ever asked or hoped for. Their patience, guidance, critiques, feedback, and support enriched this project and challenged me. I am forever indebted and very grateful to Professor Emerita Robin L. West (Georgetown Law), who provided unending support and intellectual stimulation to keep going; to Professor Emerita Nan Hunter (Georgetown Law), who pushed me to think harder about the assumptions and implications of my research; and to Professor Jill C. Morrison (Georgetown Law), who believed in this project from day one and provided invaluable guidance.
Moreover, I was fortunate to complete my doctoral studies while working full-time at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, which provided the best atmosphere for continuing to explore these issues.
Finally, no words can describe my gratitude to my wife and family for their relentless support and love, which has been crucial in sustaining me during the writing of this book. They have lifted me up and supported me in every way imaginable. Special thanks are owed to my parents, Daniel and Cecilia, who instilled a love for wisdom in me and encouraged me to follow my passions and embrace creativity. To Camila, thank you for enriching my life in the most beautiful ways and for always being supportive of me and my endeavors. I hope this book makes all of you proud.
