Abstract

The article engages with tradition and innovation in the depiction of the consort in the early modern period. It focuses on Sophie Charlotte, electress of Brandenburg and first queen of the Hohenzollern monarchy in Prussia (1668–1705), and the qualities that are attributed to her. The analysis is based on the print culture of the court, particularly the publications that accompanied her death, and establishes how her piety and intellectual qualities relate to dynastic traditions and confessional and philosophical debate. Dieser Artikel setzt sich mit Traditionen und Innovationen in der Darstellung der fürstlichen Gemahlin in der Frühen Neuzeit am Beispiel von Sophie Charlotte, Kurfürstin von Brandenburg und erste Königin der neuen Monarchie der Hohenzollern in Preußen (1668–1705), auseinander. Die Analyse basiert auf der Druckkultur des Hofes, besonders auf den nach ihrem Tod erschienenen Veröffentlichungen, und untersucht, inwieweit dynastische Traditionen und konfessionelle und philosophische Debatten die Darstellung ihrer Frömmigkeit und intellektuellen Fähigkeiten prägen.
