Index of Place Names and Subjects
Fußnoten
With regard to colony names, the index follows the principle set out in footnote 58 on p. 10, with the precedence of historical names over modern ones (e.g. Lusta instead of Alushta, Soldaia instead of Sudak), which in turn are provided with appropriate cross-references. The colonies that functioned as town districts have been assigned to their respective towns (e.g. Leontokastron in Trebizond), with the exception of Pera as a colony with the character of an independent metropolis. For ease of use, the index does not take into account the location of buildings within urban units within the colony (e.g. the contrade in Pera or the citadel in Caffa). As regards portable objects, e.g. foundation slabs, wherever possible both the place of origin and the current location are provided.
