Joy is one of the main themes in Paul’s Letter to the Philippians. However, it is closely connected with other themes, in particular suffering, unity, or fellowship in the gospel, and the correct mental attitude. The article examines the passages of the letter where joy is explicitly addressed, asking who the respective subject of joy is, what the reasons for joy and rejoicing are, and how the theme of joy is linked with the other themes of the letter. It becomes evident that for Paul joy is not just a mood or emotion, but rather an attitude.
