Abstract

The paper examines forms of formal address in Neo-Babylonian administrative epistolography. It discusses the ways in which Neo-Babylonian scribes addressed themselves, their addressees, and third parties in their letters. This is in regards with personal names versus titles/professions, additional affiliations (familial and geographic) and hypocorisms. Based on these data, the final section of the paper explores some of the issues we face in our own prosopographical work and the study of Late-Babylonian epistolography.
