Chapter 8 presents the reader with the most comprehensive study to date of the transmission history of Muslimâs á¹¢aḥīḥ. The exposition is arranged according to transmitter generations, beginning with the four known transmitters of the á¹¢aḥīḥ, IbrÄhÄ«m b. SufyÄn, Aḥmad al-QalÄnisÄ«, MakkÄ« b. Ê¿AbdÄn, and Aḥmad b. al-SharqÄ«. The problems surrounding the earliest stages of transmission are discussed in detail. The chapter includes biographical data about more than 200 transmitters, who flourished between the third/ninth and the tenth/sixteenth centuries. These biographies outline the geography of the á¹¢aḥīḥâs transmission over seven centuries after its composition. At the chapterâs end, I digress to the printed editions of the á¹¢aḥīḥ.
