Maarten Delbeke
holds the Chair of the History and Theory of Architecture at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. He researches and teaches the history and theory of art and architecture in Europe from the 17th century to the present, and is active as an architecture critic. He is particularly interested in the mediation of architecture in print, be it in text or image, digital or analogue. His recent publications include The Art of Religion: Sforza Pallavicino and Art Theory in Bernini’s Rome (2012, second edition 2016) and, as a co-editor, gta papers 5: The Cornice (2021, with Erik Wegerhoff), Cultures du spectacle baroque. Cadres, expériences et représentation des solennités religieuses entre Italie et anciens Pays-Bas (2019, with Ralph Dekoninck, Annick Delfosse, Caroline Heering, and Koen Vermeir), and Proportional Systems in the History of Architecture: A Critical Reconsideration (2018, with Matthew Cohen).
