This article presents an analysis which is intended to answer the questions of which standards are applied to such technical documents as operating, service, and workshop manuals and how these standards are followed by text producers. The analysis does not concentrate on every single aspect but it contains the important elements of macro-structure, syntax, and the complete layout. For this purpose some 40 original texts have been analysed and the results are presented systematically. At the same time a demonstration is given of which parts of a technical documentation are more influenced by standards and which are less influenced.
