Science has often been treated as a system and this last notion is derived from the methodology of deductive systems, after minor amendments have been introduced into the methodology of science. In the paper the Bertalanffyan concept of system has been applied to science (and the humanities). In particular, science is described as an instrumental system that has been appropriately defined. In the framework of this Bertalanffyan conceptual apparatus, divergent aspects of science such as: its informational content, its reference, psychological and sociological attitudes towards science, political implications of science, etc. can be coherently discussed. Furthermore, these aspects can be compared and evaluated.
