The exposition was organized on the occasion of the 100-year anniversary of Serge Diaghilev coming to Paris with his Ballets Russes – showing their innovative performances. The text of Parade was written by Jean Cocteau, music by Eric Satie, choreography Léonide Massine. Pablo Picasso designed set, costumes and a huge front curtain. The opening night (18 May 1917) became a scandal because quite a number of spectators associated the cubistic aesthetics with the German aggressors in the First World War.
