Transcription and Editorial Practice
In quotations and titles from rare books, I have regularized i/j, u/v/w and silently removed capitalization of nouns. Where necessary, I silently expanded abbreviations such as ô where an m or n had been dropped. In citing imprints, I only include names of printers and publishers when they were added to the original title page, omitting any conjectures from the critics and scholars (primarily the STC) made after the fact. I preserve printers’ and publishers’ original spelling in citations but use modernized spelling when discussing them in text. In early sources, pagination signatures are cited silently (without a preceding ‘sig.’); I use f. when citing folio pages. Unless otherwise mentioned, all early modern texts were accessed using Early English Books Online (EEBO).
