About the Author
Ellen Huijgh conducted research on public diplomacy and its domestic dimension at different levels of government across the globe. During the research on her multi-year project, she lived in Brussels, Ottawa, Beijing, and Washington DC. She was affiliated with the Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael’, The Hague, and the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Ellen was also a non-residential research fellow of the University of Southern California’s Center on Public Diplomacy. Ellen edited and co-authored a special issue of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy on the domestic dimension of public diplomacy (2012). She provided advice, training, and assistance to several national and sub-national governments, including her native Belgium and Flanders, on their public diplomacy strategy at home and abroad. She published in English, French, and Dutch. Ellen died, far too young, in February 2018 after a very courageous struggle, and is survived by her daughter and husband.
