Abstract

This chapter begins with a survey of correspondences between biblical Hebrew and Syriac, highlighting linguistic similarities and differences between their respective verbal systems and prepositions. A verse-by-verse comparison of textual segments investigates correspondences and shifts from the MT to P-Hosea that appear when the latter has deviated from formal correspondence to the source text due to non-obligatory reasons, that is, reasons not prompted by the constraints of the target language. The author calls this phase, ‘Translated Text’.
