Acknowledgments
This book summarizes and collects research that I conducted as part of my doctoral studies in collaboration with highly esteemed colleagues at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, where I worked on the project “Measures of Need-Based Justice, Expertise and Coherence” of the research group “Need-Based Justice and Distribution Procedures” (FOR 2104), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Without my colleagues, this work would not have become what it is today. I am especially indebted to my co-authors Adele Diederich, Frauke Meyer, Malte Ingo Meyerhuber, Jan Roman, Mark Siebel, Stefan Traub, and Arne Robert Weiss. I am also very grateful to all the other members of the research group for an exciting time that I will always treasure. In particular, I would like to thank Meike Benker, Marina Chugunova, Brian Dietrich, Andrew Lawrence Fassett, Sebastian Finkler, Georg Kanitsar, Ann-Katrin Kienle, Bernhard Kittel, Jan Philipp Krügel, Maximilian Lutz, Christine Meemann, Sabine Neuhofer, Andreas Nicklisch, Frank Nullmeier, Fabian Paetzel, Tanja Pritzlaff-Scheele, Thomas Schramme, Kai-Uwe Schnapp, Manuel Schwaninger, Nils Springhorn, Marc Wyszynski, and Patricia Zauchner. Special thanks go to Michael Schippers, whose decisive hint about the research group came one evening while we were sitting next to each other during a talk. Without this fortunate suggestion, I might not have found my way to the research group, and my last few years might have taken a completely different direction. Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mark Siebel for making these years equally instructive and enjoyable. I could not have wished for a better supervisor.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Markus Tepe, the second examiner of my dissertation, as well as to the committee members Susanne Möbuß, Mark Schweda, and Dirk Büsch.
Apart from the research group, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with great scientists and scholars in other contexts as well, who ensured that I never got bored and that I was constantly able to discover something new. For this, I would like to thank Nils Baratella, Gregor Damschen, and Stephan Kornmesser, among others.
I would further like to thank Konrad Vorderobermeier for translating parts of this volume. In addition, I am thankful to Ewgenia Baraboj, who proofread the newly translated texts. Moreover, I am grateful to Stephan Kopsieker from Brill | mentis for the opportunity to realize this volume in its present form and to Emilia Kröger for taking meticulous care of the manuscript.
I also want to thank my friends if they have not already been mentioned above. In particular, gratitude goes to Jessica Allermann, Malte Eggers, Benjamin Rauch, Emily, Ben, and Alexander Stabel, Xenia Ytterstedt, and Marco Zieger.
Special thanks go to Lena Marie Zomer for her patience and to Marion, Tom, and Michael Zomer for their kindness. Last but not least, I would like to thank my parents, Marion and Manfred Bauer, from the bottom of my heart for everything.
