This article seeks to identify the contributions made by the historiographical works of J. Romero Magalhães to the field of the History of the Inquisition, showing what marks they have left in the historiography and what impasses they have created.

The conclusion is that one of the essential features of the author's work was the way in which he wrote; it was also important for its discussion of the impacts of the Inquisition in the territory, as well as its periodization of the presence of the tribunal in Portugal.
