Abstract

The author ruminates on the notion of trust and power and how they connect and overlap through her artistic research. Guided by expressions from new materialists, Zen Buddhism, Futurists, and contemporary craft artists’ practices, the author contemplates her ontological presence through seaweed (wakame). Wakame becomes an exploratory material, tool, and artwork that inform the tenuous relationships between various intertwined pairings such as, personal history and histories of colonization, belonging and untethering, and being and knowing.
