Abstract

In order for Africa to continue on its growth track, this chapter examines the paradoxes that the continent currently faces and how to address them. This chapter tries to moderate this premise by arguing that Africans are not just passive victims of westernization. The work calls for the development of a collective consciousness among Africans in the process of Africaâs rising. It also highlights the importance of education and socialization in the development of Africa. To achieve this, this chapter attempts to demystify some social constructs that Europeans and their colonial agents invented and concocted that Africa is fated, ailing, and underdeveloped. In this regard, the chapter espouses that Africaâs perpetual exploitation is done in combination with what the author categorizes as home-grown Black colonialists or national bourgeois who are the main stumbling blocks against the reintegration, reinvention, and reunification of Africaâs development. Indeed, Africa needs to get out of this futile stance. In this regard, the chapter deliberates on how Africa can develop based on new value systems that are rooted in African traditional beliefs, religious systems, and on modern thinking to facilitate her communal well-being for authentic development.
